A tough approach is helping the Weissport Municipal Authority keep current with its bills to Central Carbon Municipal Authority, and the board is not planning to back off anytime soon.

In a meeting Wednesday night, members discussed shutting off two more residential water supplies and holding a constable sale. There are 12 more water shut-offs pending."'Tis the season for water shut offs," remarked Dennis Moser, authority member. "Unfortunately for us, we need to be paid too."The pending constable sale will seek to pay an overdue bill of $3,431.11, which is owed on an apartment building. The last time the bill was in such high arrears, the tenants took over paying, but it has since reverted back to the owner. Owners of properties in Weissport are billed and are responsible for payment.The cost for the monthly service is $60.One of the residents has gone through bankruptcy and has not resumed payment of the bill since the debts were released.Attorney Greg Mousseau, solicitor for the Municipal Authority, said that any accounts past 60 to 90 days will have water shutoffs in the near future. Attorney Mousseau noted that properties must be posted before water is shut off. He also advised members that a person who purchased an abandoned house should not have to pay for sewer service until the date the water is turned on.Tim Rehrig, member, announced that the municipal authority is up to date with the CCMA."We have used 2.4 percent of the capacity and our bill of $1,707.73 has been paid," said Rehrig.Rehrig noted that Franklin Township auditors revealed that the township recently overpaid its sewer bill to Weissport, but that issue will be resolved with the new billing.
