When Northern Lehigh's running game gets going, it's hard to stop.

Salisbury found that out earlier this season and was reminded of it Saturday night in a District 11 Class AA playoff game. The Bulldogs amassed 279 yards on the ground in a 21-6 win over the Falcons Saturday in Slatington to advance to next week's district semifinal."It was just power I and double tight," Tout said. "The game came down to us controlling the line of scrimmage."We asked them at halftime 'what do you guys think.' And they just said 'Coach, lets go straight ahead.' They felt like they could get a push. That's Bulldog football."The No. 2 seed Bulldogs (9-2) will host No. 3 seed Catasauqua (8-3) next Saturday at 7 p.m. The Rough Riders beat Palisades Saturday to advance to the semifinal.Northern Lehigh, which ran for over 400 yards in a 42-14 Week 5 win over Salisbury, opened an early lead against the Falcons again on Saturday night. Touchdowns on their first two possessions gave the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead less than eight minutes into the game.But Salisbury (4-7) answered with a second-quarter touchdown and kept it close until the more physical team took over in the second half.Northern Lehigh ran for 153 yards in the second half while using two long drives to wear down the Falcons. Running back Cody Remaley rushed for 126 yards in the second half and 220 yards in the game, breaking his school's single season rushing record."When we get rolling," Remaley said. "When we just chunk them and chunk them, I don't want to say we can't be stopped, but it's going to take a lot to slow us down."Remaley was the top rusher in the Colonial League this season. He leads the Times News area with 1,805 yards this season. He eclipsed Nick Hosford's mark of 1,763 yards, which was set in 2005."It feels real good," Remaley said. "That was the last thing on my mind. I just wanted to win and we did."Remaley scored on his first carry Saturday night, running 48 yards on the game's third play from scrimmage.Northern Lehigh scored again on its next possession, a 10-play drive ending Matt Gill's 20-yard touchdown run for a 14-0 lead with 4:26 left in the first quarter.Salisbury cut the lead when it put together a seven-play touchdown drive highlighted by two Tony David receptions, one for 24 yards and another for 19 yards. Quarterback Justin Todora plunged in from a yard out to make it 14-6 with 6:36 left in the first half."They never gave up," said Salisbury head coach Rob Sawicki. "We were happy with this opporutnity. Obviously we wanted to win the football game, but we did a lot of nice things. We played for four quarters. We never gave up. They came out early and scored two touchdowns right away. We regrouped. We came back out there and we did a better job and we improved."Both offenses stalled for the rest of the half. Two Salisbury possessions both ended in interceptions by Northern Lehigh's Jake Kern.Three more first-half Northern Lehigh possessions ended with a lost fumble, a punt and the second-quarter clock.But when the second half started, it was back to "Bulldog football."After forcing a punt on Salisbury's first possession of the second half, Northern Lehigh took the ball and held it for 16 plays, taking 7:26 off the third-quarter clock before turning the ball over on downs at the Falcon 18-yard line. While it didn't result in a score, it kept Salisbury's offense off the field.After another Salisbury punt, Northern Lehigh mounted the drive that sealed the win.The Bulldogs used 14 plays, mixing in eight Remaley runs with six Gill rumbles. It took 7:16 off the clock and when Remaley ran in from seven yards out with 4:38 remaining in the game and a 21-6 lead, the game was all but over.While a lot of fans might have been surprised by Salisbury's effort, the Bulldogs were expecting it."We watched film on them and they improved a lot since last time," Gill said. "It was a dog fight tonight. It was a great game by both teams."
