A Wyoming County man was jailed earlier this month following an incident in Carbon County. State police at Lehighton said the incident occurred in the parking lot of their barracks located along SR209 in Towamensing Township.

A Schuylkill County man lost over $11,000 in a sweepstakes scam.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Kenneth Townsend, 73, of 2224 Tonto Cove, Auburn, South Manheim Township, was contacted by Golden Nugget Sweepstakes Company that he had won $2.5 million, a Mercedes-Benz and $15,000 cash for out of pocket expenses.

Townsend was required to send various amounts of money grams and money orders to claim his prizes. He never received the prizes but ended up sending and losing $11,042, troopers said.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.

A Monroe County man has been accused of selling false raffle tickets.

According to state police at Lehighton, Barry Allen Frantz, 41, of Effort, was charged with selling the false tickets to Christopher Tokar, 49, and Jacques L. Fuqua, 74, both of Effort.

The incident allegedly occurred at 9 p.m. Monday, June 13 in Chestnuthill Township.

State police at Lehighton are investigating an attempted burglary that occurred in Monroe County.

Troopers said an unknown criminal attempted to enter the home of George Cibik, 48, of 4637 Buck Lane, in Kunkletown, Polk Township, about 2:08 a.m. on July 7. They attempted to gain entry through a window but fled when confronted by Cibik, troopers said.

A Carbon County woman is facing charges for allegedly using fraudulent information to obtain several bank accounts from the PSE credit union.

Troopers said Patricia E. Gadaleta, 52, of Lehighton, will be charged with forgery and related charges in which PSE suffered a financial loss.

Several arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) were reported by state police at Lehighton.

Troopers said on Friday, July 15, about 10:12 p.m. Thomas Peter Grabko, of Kunkletown, was driivng westbound on Serfass Road, in Polk Township, Monroe County, when his vehicle went onto the berm and struck a parked car in the driveway of 160 Serfass Road.

Troopers said Grabko failed to stop and continued west on Serfass Road until his vehicle became disabled due to the crash. He was found to be under the influence and is facing DUI and other counts, troopers said.

Lehighton police charged a Weissport man with disorderly conduct after an incident that occurred just after midnight Friday.

Elvis D. Lopez, 45, of 200 White St. rear, was involved in an incident at 157-159 South First St., Lehighton.

Lehighton police have cited a borough woman for allowing her dog to run loose.

Doris Cohen, 50, of 366 East Alley, was cited at 5:30 p.m. July 8 for allowing the dog to roam the 300 block of North Second Street.

A motorcyclist was injured in a crash along a Carbon County road. State police at Lehighton said the crash occurred about 6:05 p.m. on July 11 along Maury Road in Penn Forest Township.

Troopers said Noah J. Sweitzer, 30, of White Haven, was driving a 2005 Harley-Davidson northbound at a high rate of speed, when for unknown reasons, the bike traveled across the southbound lane and off the road. The bike struck a ditch causing Sweitzer to lose control.

A theft incident at a Carbon County lake is being probed.

State police at Lehighton said the 2004 Ford Mustang of Melissa Miller, of the 100 block of Canal St., in Landingville, Schuylkill County, was entered while parked in a lot at Beltzville Lake, near the interesection fo Deer Lane and Pohopoco Drive, in Towamensing Township. The unlocked car was entered sometime between 5:30 and 7 p.m. on Friday, July 15.

Taken from the vehicle was a wheel lock, a purse containing miscellaneous items and a cellular phone.
