State police at Fern Ridge are investigating a theft from vehicle incident in Carbon County.

Troopers said the unlocked 2004 Nissan Frontier of Kerry M. Knapp, 133 Mansi Drive, Indian Mountain Lakes, Albrightsville, Penn Forest Township, was entered sometime between 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, and 6:15 a.m. on Monday while parked at the residence.

Removed was a purse and two pocket knives. Total estimated loss was $50.

A New York resident has been charged with retail theft for an incident at a Monroe County business.

State police at Fern Ridge said about 1 p.m. on Jan. 28 troopers were called to Kinsley's Shop Rite, in Chestnuthill Township, for a reported theft.

Troopers said Michael Anthony Shanks, 43, of Brooklyn, allegedly attempted to remove $139.22 with of merchandise from the store without paying for it.

A New Jersey man has been charged for violating a protection from abuse (PFA) order in Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Pedro Carmenate, 50, of Newark, was charged for an incident that occurred about 8:48 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan., 31, at 60 Schuylkill St., in Cressona.

Troopers said Carmenate made contact with a 17-year-old female in violation of the order. The complaint was made the the female's mother, troopers added.

Tamaqua police picked up a local woman on Saturday, Jan. 28, wanted on an arrest warrant issued by Lehigh County Adult Probation.

Off duty patrolman Matthew Houser was driving through Tamaqua at 5:08 p.m. and observed Lorna J. Young, 46, entering her last known address, 44 Mauch Chunk St.

Houser called Patrolman Karl Harig to report seeing Young. Harig went to the scene and the two officers secured the building, then discovered Young hiding under a comforter in a bedroom in one of the apartments.

A vehicle stop in Monroe County has led to a drug count being filed against the driver.

Pocono Mountain Regional police stopped a vehicle on Tuesday, Jan. 31, along SR611 in Mount Pocono, for an equipment violation. The driver was identified as Matthew Dyer, 25, of Kunkletown.

Officers observed marijuana in the vehicle and conducted a search. Found was a small amount of marijuana. Dyer will be charged with possession of marijuana, police said.

A Palmerton man is facing charges following a traffic stop in Rush Township in Jan. 25.

Jeffery Gildner, 48, was stopped on Claremont Avenue, then transported to the to township police station for a breath test. The results indicated a .163 percent blood alcohol level, more than twice the legal limit. Other charges are also pending.

The incident took place at 2:55 p.m.

A school bus carrying a basketball team following a game at a Schuylkill County school was "egged" this week.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, along SR61 northbound in the area of Renninger's Market, in North Manheim Township.

Troopers said a bus carrying players of the Pine Grove High School boys' basketball team had just left Blue Mountain High School, located along SR443, and was entering onto SR61 when the eggs were thrown at the bus, striking the passegner side and the windshield.

State police at Fern Ridge are investigating a burglary at a Carbon County residence in which copper pipes were stolen.

The break-in occurred at the residence of Ralph Trabachino, 45, of 28 Milton Way, Albrightsville, Towamensing Trails, Penn Forest Township.

Troopers said forced entry was made to a crawl space underneath the home. The copper pipes were removed from that area. Troopers said the criminala then went to a shed on the property and gained entry by force and removed a gas can and some tools.

State police at Lehighton are investigating a burglary that occurred at a Carbon County residence in which the homeowner observed the suspect, who then fled the scene. The incident occurred on Friday, Jan 27, between midnight at 12:20 a.m. at the home of Shirley A. Kuntz, 68, of 2380 Lower Smithgap Road, in Kunkletown, Lower Towamensing Township.

State police at Frackville reported investigating three crashes along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County, in recent days.

Troopers said Eric E. Melusky, 18, of Seltzer, Schuylkill County, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tracker southbound about 12:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, when he encountered ice on the road surface due to a snow squall that moved through the area.
