Rush Township Police are investigating a rash of burglaries reported to the department over the past few days. Four separate properties, on Fairfax Street and Claremont Avenue, were burglarized.

All of the homes were vacant and forcibly entered. The thieves took copper piping and building materials.

Anyone with information may contact the department at (570) 668-4242. Rush Police Sgt. Duane Frederick suggests neighbors who see a vehicle parked at an empty home or business contact police immediately.

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said a driver fled the scene of a two-vehicle crash that happened at midnight Dec. 23 at the intersection of routes 183 and 901 in Cressona Borough.

Police said the runaway driver was operating a 2002 Jeep Liberty that collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer in the intersection. The Blazer was driven by Cynthia R. Yoder, 51, of Pine Grove, who was injured in the crash.

After striking the Blazer, the Liberty proceeded east on Pottsville Street. Police said it sustained damages to its left front and rear.

State police at the Frackville barracks are investigating an incident that happened between 1 and 5:45 a.m. Dec. 21 in Tuscarora, where someone tried to steal a motor vehicle.

Police said Leocadia J. Matsago, the victim, reported someone entered her unlocked Dodge Stratus while it was parked in an alley alongside her residence and proceeded to cause damage to the ignition and steering column.

The incident happened on Strawberry Street, near Chestnut Street, in Schuylkill Township.

State police at the Fogelsville barracks are investigating a one-vehicle accident that happened at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 20 along Rt. 143, King's Highway, in Lynn Township.

Police said a vehicle traveling west crossed the eastbound lane and left the roadway via the south berm where it struck a property owner's mailbox head-on. The vehicle then continued across the driveway, striking a planter box before the operator regained control of the vehicle, re-entered the roadway via the eastbound lane and fled westbound on Route 143.

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks responded to an incident at 9 a.m. Dec. 19 on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, where an object fell off the back of a tractor trailer and caused a flat tire to a car that ran over it.

Police said Anne Hanner, 43, of Dubois, Pa., was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer and was traveling behind the rig when the object fell off it. Police said Hanner was unable to avoid the object, ran over it and ended up with the flat tire.

The rig never stopped.

Cybil Ann Whitby of Kunkletown and John Paul Miller of Effort have been arrested by state police at the Lehighton barracks on charges of crimianl trespass.

Police said they were found in a barn owned by Lorraine Agner Everett of Seventh Street, Lehighton, by neighbors, who were able to provide police with the registration plate of the vehicle the two utilized. Police said the accused admitted they were inside the barn looking for belongings which were kept inside.

The barn is located at the intersection of Correll and Kunkletown roads in Eldred Township.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police arrested Jeffrey Schnettler, 30, of Bethlehem, on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after an incident at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 16 at the intersection of routes 940 and 611 in Mount Pocono.

Police said they were dispatched for a report of a driver drinking from an opened container of beer and driving in a careless manor. Upon responding, they stopped Schnettler and found him in an intoxicated state and also observing several opened bottles of beer inside the vehicle.

Mark Germine, 57, of Jim Thorpe, has been arrested by state police at the Lehighton barracks for DUI.

Police said the incident happened at 8;45 p.m. Dec. 19 at State Rt. 903 and Behrens Road in Penn Forest Township.

Police said they were on routine patrol when they observed a vehicle off the roadway at the above location. Upon investigation, police learned Germine was driving a vehicle that missed the turn onto Behrens Road. The vehicle went off the road and became stuck in a drainage ditch on the side of the road.

State police at the Lehighton barracks have labeled an incident a "theft from a motor vehicle," when someone removed the lugnuts off a car.

The incident happened between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Palmerton Area High School, Lower Towamensing Township.

The victim is a juvenile boy from Bowmanstown.

Police said someone remover four of the five lugnuts from the front driver's side wheel of the victim's 1995 Buick Regal.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police report they found a man was in possession of drugs in his vehicle after a traffic stop on Dec. 16 along Toll Road in Blakeslee, Tunkhannock Township.

They charged Michael Donnelly, 31, of Blakeslee, with possession of marijuana, possession of drig paraphernalia, driving while his license is suspended for driving under the influence of a controlled substance, littering and roadways laned for traffic.
