White

Brandon White of Lansford was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at King's College with a GPA of 3.813. His cumulative GPA is 3.839.

White is the son of Jenn McMichael of Lansford and the grandson of Bill and Mary McMichael of Hauto. He is majoring in accounting.

Mrs. RuthAnn A. Gardiner, Principal of the Tamaqua Area High School, has announced the students who qualify for the honor roll for the second quarter of the 2009-2010 school year.

Highest Honors: average of 95 percent or above with no grade below 93 percent in a major subject.

High Honors: average of 90 percent or above with no grade lower than an 86 percent in a major subject.

Honors: average of 86 percent or above with no grade lower than 78 percent in a major subject.

A record 1,140 students received degrees from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania at separate commencement exercises for undergraduate and graduate students on May 7 and 8.

McDonald

Codey D. McDonald, a 2006 graduate of Panther Valley High School, received a perfect GPA of a 4.0 for the spring semester at Bloomsburg University. He was also placed on the dean's list for the fall semester.

McDonald is majoring in elementary education. He was a former college intern at Panther Valley School District through the after-school program S.H.I.N.E.

He will graduate in December and plans to pursue a job in education. He is the son of Bernard and Michelle McDonald of Summit Hill.

Sarah Nonnemacher

Sarah Nonnemacher of Jim Thorpe attained the dean's list at Penn State Hazleton Campus. She finished her junior year with a GPA of 3.9. Her major is Letters, Arts and Sciences. She is a 2007 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School. She is the daughter of Rebecca and Michael Nonnemacher, both of Jim Thorpe. This summer she will start an internship at Carbon County Children and Youth. She will graduate in 2011.

Yelinek

Air Force Airman 1st Class Jacob A. Yelinek graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Yelinek earned distinction as an honor graduate.

Kebra Faye Schaller

Kebra Faye Schaller graduated with honors from Marywood University May 9 with a bachelor's degree of science in clinical psychology.

She is the daughter of Kevin and Deborah Schaller of Coaldale, and a 2006 graduate of Panther Valley High School.

Justin Jacobs

Justin Jacobs, son of Dawn and Eugene Jacobs of Nesquehoning, has been accepted and is planning to attend Lycoming College in the fall of 2010. He is a senior at Marian Catholic High School.

Justin is a member of the track and field team. He is also a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and the National Honor Society.

Mark Ahner, a sophomore at Millersville University, is the 2010 recipient of the E.I. Quarantelli Award for Excellence, in the field of Emergency Management.

This award is given yearly to a student of the university demonstrating mastery in the field of Environmental Safety/Emergency Management. This summer, Mark will be attending the University of Delaware for an internship in his field.

Mark is the son of Ronald and Melinda Ahner.
