Melber

Rebeka Melber of Albrightsville received bachelor of arts in international relations from Arcadia University in Glenside, Philadelphia. She is a May 2010 graduate. She also received a certificate for Intelligence and Homeland Security through Point Park University with FEMA certifications accompanying that certificate.

Cazenovia College's 185th Commencement Ceremony took place on May 15. Two area residents were among more than 180 graduates.

Amanda M. Chicora of Auburn, received a bachelor of professional studies degree in management specializing in fashion merchandising, with a minor in fashion design. Chicora received the Fashion Merchandising Program Award.

Sarah M. Miller of Lehighton, received a bachelor of fine arts degree cum laude, specializing in studio art specializing in photography, with a minor in art history. Miller is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

Pysher

Sara Pysher of Lehighton graduated magna cum laude on May 8 from Mansfield University in Mansfield.

Pysher earned a bachelor's degree in music education. She finished with an overall 3.77 grade point average.

She is the daughter of Mark and Cindy Pysher of Lehighton and a 2006 graduate of Lehighton Area High School.

Austin I. Shupp, a student at Palmerton High School, was named as a Science Student of Excellence by the United State Achievement Academy. Shupp was nominated by his teacher, Michael Lengle. His name will appear in the United States Achievement Academy's Official Yearbook with is published nationally.

Columbia College, Chicago, announces Timothy Attewell of Jim Thorpe on being named to the dean's list for spring semester 2010. To be named to the dean's list at Columbia College Chicago, an honoree must have been a full-time student with at least 12 earned credit hours and a 3.75 grade point average or above for that semester. Columbia College Chicago is an urban institution that offers innovative degree programs in the visual, performing, media and communication arts to more than 12,000 students in over 120 undergraduate and graduate programs.

RuthAnn A. Gardiner, Principal of the Tamaqua Area High School, has announced the students who qualify for the honor roll for the fourth quarter of the 2009-2010 school year. To be eligible for Highest Honors, students must maintain an average of 95 percent or better, with no grade below 93 in a major subject. High honors are awarded to students earning an average of 90 percent or better, with no grade lower than 86 in a major subject. Honors is for students who earn an average of 86 percent or better, with no grade below a 78 in a major subject.

Christopher Czapla, principal of the Tamaqua Area Middle School, has released the names of students attaining honor roll status for the final marking period of the 2009-2010 school year. To be eligible for Highest Honors, students must maintain a cumulative average of 95 or higher, with no grade lower than a 93. For High Honors, students must earn grades of 90 or higher, with no grade lower than 86. An average of 86 or above, with no grade lower than 78 is required for honors status.

DeLauretis

Heather DeLauretis, a 2005 Tamaqua Area High School graduate, has graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bloomsburg University.

She is a member of the National Honor Society and Kappa Delta Pi.

Prior to attending Bloomsburg, DeLauretis attended Lehigh Carbon Community College and is a 2007 graduate of the Walt Disney World College program.

Leonzi

Nicole Leonzi, a 2006 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Audiology and Speech Pathology with a concentration in Exceptional Children from Bloomsburg University.

Leonzi graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors.

She will continue her education at Bloomsburg University this fall as she pursues her clinical doctorate in Audiology.
