Jason Matyascik, the son of Bernard and Nancy Matyascik of Summit Hill, received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine on Sunday, May 30, at the Louis J. Tullio Arena in Erie.

LECOM graduates go on to osteopathic internships through the American Osteopathic Association intern match program, or choose a medical specialty internship and residency program.

For the next year, Matyascik will be working at the Meadville Medical Center in Meadville.

Lynn A. Davies, daughter of Jon and Debbie Davies of Tuscarora, has been named to the Dean's List for the Spring semester at Towson University in Maryland. A 2009 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, she earned a 3.96 grade point average, majoring in Occupational Therapy.

Davies is the granddaughter of Betty Davies and Gwen Evans of Tamaqua.

Steven Behr, Principal of the Tamaqua Area School District´s three elementary schools, has released the names of students earning honor roll status for the final marking period of the 2009-2010 school year. This list includes students from all three schools. To be eligible for High Honors, students must earn straight As. To earn honors, students in grades four through six must earn four As and two Bs, while third grade students must earn three As and one B.

Ryan Oravec of Andreas, a freshman at Bloomsburg University, was named to the dean's list at Bloomsburg University. He attained a 4.0 GPA during the spring semester. He is taking a dual major, a BS in mathematics and computer science. He attended Tamaqua High School. He is the son of Sharon and Tim Oravec of Andreas and the grandson of Betty and George Vincent, Coaldale; and Ethel Oravec of Andreas.

Mike Thomas of Jim Thorpe, joined a group of 27 volunteers to assist at animal shelters in Ritchie, Braxton and Clay counties in West Virginia for a week in May. They provided shelter repair and assistance in building kennels, doghouses and exercise yards.

The program was funded by a grant from the Foundation and Animal Planet's R.O.A.R. program and is an outreach venture of Animal Lifeline, a non-profit, all-volunteer animal welfare organization based in Eastern and Central Pennsylvania and sponsors a club at Delaware Valley College.

Sarah Swankoski, daughter of Ray and Patty Swankoski of Coaldale, was one of over 500 students to graduate from Misericordia University, Dallas, Pa., during its 84th commencement exercises, held May 23.

Swankoski received a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She has accepted a position with Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital in Bethlehem.

A 2006 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, she is the granddaughter of Joseph and Peggy Rebarchak of Hazle Township, and Irene Swankoski of Hazleton.

Jennifer Stoves graduate from Saint Joseph College of Maine on May 8, with a Master of Science degree in Education. Stoves graduated from Saint Joseph with a 3.91 grade point average. She is a 2007 graduate of Kutztown University, where she attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and a 2003 graduate of Panther Valley High School.

Stoves is the daughter of Mark and Kelly Dirzulaitis of Coaldale and the wife of Sean Stoves of Coaldale.

Adam Demyanovich, a sophomore at Penn State University, has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2010 semester, with a grade-point average of 3.86. He is majoring in finance.

Adam is the son of Bob and Deb Demyanovich of Coaldale. He is a 2008 graduate of Panther Valley High School.

Marcey Lynn(Muffley) Goodbred, daughter of Clarence and Linda Muffley of Lehighton, received her B.S.N. during the commencement ceremony held at Moravian College in Bethlehem on May 15. A nursing pinning ceremony was held May 14 at the college, where Marcey's father was given the honor of pinning his daughter.
