Polk Elementary PTO News

Polk Elementary PTO will be hosting a family fun night on Friday, Nov. 12 from 6-8 p.m. in the school's gym.

Polk's PTO meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m.

All are welcome to attend.

Toys for Tots

Pleasant Valley Elementary School is once again participating in the Toys for Tots Program. All toys collected will be picked up by the Marines and distributed to needy families throughout Monroe County.

The toy drive will begin Nov. 15 and continue through Dec. 15.

West End Relay For Life

West End Relay For Life teams and team captains will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley High School cafeteria. The Team Challenge is to come wearing a Relay For Life T-shirt for 2001 through 2005.

Veterans Day at PVHS

Pleasant Valley High School will hold its annual Veterans Day program on Thursday, Nov. 11 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the high school gym. There will be speeches from veterans and performances by students. Many of the country's armed forces organizations will have displays.

St. Matthew's needs baked goods

St. Matthew's UCC is looking for donations of baked goods and Chinese auction items for the bazaar on Nov. 6. If you can bring baked goods by 9 a.m. that morning, it would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact Loretta at 610-381-3037.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Vol. Fire Co. It will be celebrating with a Thanksgiving meal of hot roast beef sandwiches. They need volunteers to bring dessert and they will be playing Bingo.

Salem St. Paul's Church

Sunday, Nov. 7 is a Food Offering for PVEN (local food pantry) at Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Needed for holiday bags: canned vegetables, yams and gravy, boxed stuffing, cake mix and icing, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, Mr. Z's food cards and/or turkeys. You can drop off your items before or after SSP's church service on Sunday.

Bells to ring

Beginning Nov. 5, the Salvation Army will be ringing bells in connection with its Red Kettle campaign. Various service groups will be helping. In Chestnuthill Township, that outreach will take place at Kinsley's in Brodheadsville.

Lions Board

The board of directors of the Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville. All Lions are welcome.

PV Band Parents

The Pleasant Valley Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 4, at the high school.

Polk Twp. Historical Society Meeting

The Polk Township Historical Society will meet on Monday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Polk Township municipal building in Kresgeville. The evening's guest speaker will be William Dorshimer. Mr. Dorshimer served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He will share memories of his experiences as a member of the liberation forces in the European Theater. A short business meeting will follow the special presentation. Everyone is welcome to attend. For additional information, please call Pat at 610-681-8984.

Fairview Seniors

A trip to Ehrhard's to celebrate October Fest was the latest excursion for the Fairview Seniors. The group is making more plans for other adventures. On Tuesday, Oct. 26, the group had hot dogs, cider and doughnuts for Halloween and gave Crosses in Pocket made by club members to Operation Touch of Home to send to service men and women overseas

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. Join in the Halloween fun and wear a costume. Bring a bag lunch. Cider and doughnuts will be served. They will play bingo for prizes.

St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown will hold its annual Halloween Party on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. Come dressed in costumes and win a prize. There will be games and refreshments.

Harvest Home celebration

Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will celebrate Harvest Home Sunday during the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Oct. 24. Nonperishable food items as well as garden fruits and vegetables are welcome.

All items will be used to help those in need in the community.

Free historical movie

On Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m., the Western Pocono Community Library will present the historical movie "A More Perfect Union: America Becomes a Nation," in the Community Room at the west end of the library.
