PV School Board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, July 14, at the district office.

Parking lot repair

The parking lot at Effort UMC will be closed off in sections for periods of time as work is being done there. Work was to begin July 5, weather permitting.

The church's Prayer Garden is to undergo work on July 14. Master Gardener Julie Foley will be one of those in charge.

St. Matthew's youth group

St. Matthew's youth group will meet Tuesdays and Fridays in July at 2 p.m. to paint the cemetery fence. Anyone who would like to volunteer their time to help them paint would be welcomed.

Eldred supervisors

The Eldred Township supervisors will meet on Wednesday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the municipal building.

Young at Heart Seniors

Young at Heart Seniors meet twice a month at the Polk Township Fire Co. in Kresgeville, located on Rt. 209 just past the Kresgeville Post Office. The meetings are the first and third Tuesday of the month. Western Pocono Lioness

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will host a Patriotic Coloring Contest at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, July 2.

The board will meet at the Western Pocono Community Library at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 6.

Lion Mary Jane Lucrezi represented the club as a celebrity bagger at Kinsley's Celebrity Bagger Day.

Caregiver's support

On July 6, from 6:30-8 p.m., the Caregiver's Support Group will meet on the first floor of the Loder Building.

Organ donor awareness

This Friday is Kinsley's ShopRite's First Annual Organ Donor Awareness Day.

The activities will run from noon until 4 p.m.

Driver safety program

An eight-hour driver refresher course offered by AARP will be held July 16 and July 23 at the Chestnuthill Park Building. Both four-hour sessions must be attended in order to complete the class and receive a certificate of accomplishment.

Historical society

The Eldred Township Historical Society is looking for donations for its Chinese auction to be held at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company's Carnival. If you would like to make a donation, see that it is there at St. Matthew's UCC's picnic grove Tuesday, June 21 at 10 a.m. or call Brenda Dorshimer at (610) 381-3895.

Because of the carnival, there will be no ETHS meeting on June 21. The next scheduled meeting will be on Tuesday, July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Eldred Twp. municipal building.

There is an addition to the Pleasant Valley High School senior class list, which was published in the June 2, edition of the TIMES NEWS Graduation Tab.

Ashley Smith, whose name was not submitted for publication, is also a graduate of the PV Class of 2011.

Blood drive

Salem United Church of Christ, along with Boy Scout Troop 101 will be hosting a blood drive on Saturday, June 25 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the church, which is located on Gilbert Road behind the Turkey Hill in Gilbert.

Free concerts

The West End Park Open Space Commission will present a series of free concerts in area parks this summer. The kickoff concert will be Sunday, June 26 from 6-8 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville.

Leigh Lombardo-Cole and Chris Eckert will feature the music of Neil Diamond, Patsy Cline and others.

Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church

Salem St. Paul will host the Shake it Up Café, where kids carry out God's recipe for living. Vacation Bible School starts Sunday, June 26 at 10:20 a.m. after the worship service, and continues Monday through Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The closing celebration will be Thursday at 8 p.m.

The VBS program is for the whole family, with classes for ages 4 through grade 6, with adult classes too. Junior and senior high students are encouraged to come and be teacher's aides, or help with crafts, music, games or snacks.

Three consecrated

Effort UMC 's Pastor Robin Fisher consecrated three adult volunteers this past Sunday.

Karen D'arcy was consecrated as the new food pantry director at the church, replacing Mark Baylis. She has volunteered at the pantry since its inception, about 10 years ago.

Joining her in administrative leadership, also from the ranks of volunteers, is Anne Marie Klemm as assistant director. Klemm has about four years experience, says D'arcy

The third volunteer, Deborah Audett, will serve as Vacation Bible School director.
