Salem St. Paul's

Christmas in August is Sunday, Aug. 14 at Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

They will sing Christmas carols and collect "gifts" for PVEN, such as new sneakers, socks, undies, gently used sheets and blankets. Stay after worship for a Christmas brunch.

There will be a blood drive in honor of JoAnne Fitzpatrick Sunday, Aug. 7 after worship. Fill the bus. The Red Cross bus will be there from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Grocer's fight cancer

Kinsley's ShopRite in Brodheadsville will hold Grocer's Fight Cancer Day on Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Special activities will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including"celebrity baggers" who will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

St. Matt's Youth Group

The Youth Group at St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown has been diligently working on painting the cemetery's wrought iron fence this summer.

They are meeting every Tuesday and Thursday this month from 2-7 p.m., with supper provided and later a movie.

They will be camping out in the church's picnic grove on Saturday, July 23, preparing a skit for the church's Sunday morning 9 a.m. worship service.

Al-Anon - Adult Children meeting

Al-Anon - Adult Children Meetings take place on Mondays, from 7:30-9 p.m. at Salem United Church of Christ, Route 209 and Gilbert Road, Gilbert (behind the Turkey Hill).

Al-Anon is for families, relatives and friends whose lives have been affected by alcoholism.

If someone close to you has, or has had a drinking problem, then Al-Anon may be for you.

Anyone who has been affected by another person's addiction and/or dysfunctions is welcome also.

The public is welcome to join them to learn more how Al-Anon can help.

Mission trip

Adults and youth from Effort United Methodist Church left Sunday for a mission trip to Peterstown, West Virginia, accompanied by the Rev. Robin Fisher, pastor. In the pastor's absence, the Rev. Robert G. Argot Sr., retired pastor, preached at both Sunday services.

Zion seniors

The Zion Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 21, at the church's fellowship hall in Brodheadsville.

Spanish Mass

A Spanish Mass will be offered at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 24.

St. Matt's Youth Group

St. Matthew's UCC's Youth Group are still painting the cemetery fence every Tuesday and Friday in July from 2 p.m., weather permitting. Help is always welcome.

The next meeting of the Eldred Township Historical Society will be Tuesday, July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Eldred Twp. municipal building.

Polk Township Volunteer Fire Co.

There will be no breakfast at Polk Township Fire Company during the months of July and August. It will resume again in September.

Safe Haven Adoption Day

Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold an Adoption Day on Saturday, July 23, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at Berger's Agway, Rt. 209, Brodheadsville. Safe Haven will have many young dogs available for you to meet and get to know.

Car show benefit

Tri-County Vettes and Brodheadsville Chevrolet will host a Car Show and Swap Meet from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m., on Sunday, July 17, rain or shine. The event will benefit Boy Scout Troop 86 and United Way of Monroe County.

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, July 14 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Co. They will be celebrating Independence Day with hot dogs and sauerkraut. They are asking members to bring a dessert. Also bring a lucky charm to help you win at bingo.

Salem St. Paul

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church is celebrating Thanksgiving in July on Sunday, July 17. They will sing Thanksgiving songs, collect boxes and cans of food for PVEN (West End food pantry) and have a Thanksgiving "feast," the Eucharist or Holy Communion.

Volunteers are needed to help beautify Salem St. Paul's church gardens by weeding. They will start at the library garden and work toward the Sunday school wing. Come when your schedule permits.
