Interagency Council

The next meeting of the Monroe County Interagency Council is scheduled for 9 a.m., Wednesday, March 10 at the Penn State Cooperative Extension Meeting Room, 724 Phillips Street, Stroudsburg.

The guest speaker will be Karen Schiavone, senior cancer center specialist from the American Cancer Society.

Chem Free Committee

The Pleasant Valley Chemical Free Graduation Party committee will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 11, at Sen. Browne's office on the corner of Sullivan Trail and Route 209, across from the Chestnuthill Diner.

St. Matthew's UCC will hold a Lenten service on Wednesday, March 10. Soup and sandwich hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the service will be at 7:30 p.m. The visiting preacher will be the Rev. Sharon Temple.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, March 11 at 11 a.m. They will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day so members should wear green. Bring a covered dish and desserts.

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church

On Wednesday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. there will be a Soup Supper (soup, drinks and desserts provided. You may bring a sandwich.) Then at 7:30 p.m. there will be a Community Lenten Service at St. Matthews UCC in Kunkletown.

There is a Food Offering every first Sunday which helps feed the hungry in the West End. Please bring boxes or cans of food any time and place them in the barrel by the church office. If you need food, clothing or rental assistance, call the director of PVEN, Eloise Laubach, at (570) 992-3136.

Rescheduled events

The snows of last week did indeed change schedules all around. Among the changes, the Pleasant Valley School Board will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at the district office in Brodheadsville

The Night of Unity that was to be held at PVHS last week was also postponed. It will now be held this Thursday, March 4, from to 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Hearing on Eldred Elementary School

There will be a hearing at Pleasant Valley School District's administration building on Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m. The subject will be the possible closing of Eldred Elementary School.

Lenten service

There will be a Lenten service at Jerusalem U.C.C. in Trachsville on Wednesday, March 3. The Soup and Sandwich social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the service will be at 7:30 p.m. Pastor Brian Holben will be the guest preacher.

Hunter Trapper Safety Course

Pennsylvania Game Commission Hunter-Trapper Education classes will be held on June 12 and 13, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

100 years

Boy Scouts of America is celebrating Scouting's 100th anniversary, as of Feb. 8. As such, many Boy Scouts were involved in local churches this past weekend for Scout Sunday.

Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 98, Steve Rhoads, and his son, Nathaniel, a member of Troop 98, helped with the Saturday service at Effort UMC.

The elder Rhoads served as lector and joined his son in leading the Scoutmaster's Benediction, before the service was concluded by the guest preacher, the Rev. Robert Argot Sr.

The weekly community Lenten service will be held at Salem St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Soup and sandwich time will be at 6:30 p.m. and the worship service will be at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Michael Eckroth will be the guest preacher.
