Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church

The work schedule for this year's West End Fair Stand is posted on the community bulletin board and ready to be filled in. You must be 13+ years old to work in the stand.

If you are able to sign up for more than one shift, that would be great.

Volunteers will receive a free fair entry ticket for the day they are scheduled to work, plus a free meal. There are three shifts daily from Aug. 26 through Sept. 1, with five to six volunteers per shift.

West End Rotary

Mel Ludwig and students from the Pleasant Valley School District art program are scheduled to be the guests of the West End Rotary club this Thursday, Aug. 9. The club meets for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

At 7 a.m., the club will present a donation to Dolores Everitt of Girls on the Run.

The donation is from proceeds from the club's successful Bear Run and Fun Walk.

Youth group

St. Matthew's UCC Youth Group will be meeting in the month of August every Wednesday on Aug. 8, 15, 22, 29 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. If you have children from grades 5-12 who would like to join, drop in and see what they're all about; or call (610) 381-2442.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company.

Bring a bag lunch and an item for the Chinese auction.

Supervisor's meeting

Polk Township's regular supervisors meeting for Monday, Aug. 27 has been changed to 8 a.m. in the morning on the same day.

While this was previously advertised at the start of the new year; they would like the Polk Township residents to note the time change from 7 p.m. at night to 8 a.m. in the morning.

This change is due to the fact that it is the week of the West End Fair.

The Insects Are Us 4-H Club is seeking new members. This West End 4-H club usually meet the second Friday evening and fourth Saturday morning of the month.

Mrs. Bush's Pet Show

Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home is looking for animals to participate in the sixth annual Pet Show on Aug. 7 at 2 p.m.

Animals are welcome with current updated shot records. Many prizes will be awarded for different categories and there is no fee to enter, but they ask that you bring along a pet item to donate to a local shelter (food, bedding, etc.).

Some categories will include smallest and largest pet, most talented, unique and many more.

Middlecreek Christian Church VBS

VBS will be held at Middlecreek Christian Church from July 30-Aug. 3 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. It is open to kids 3-18. This year's theme is Babylon-Daniel's Courage in Captivity.

Travel back into Bible times. Listen to Daniel and his experiences in captivity each day. Learn from the Shopkeepers at the Market Place and their crafts. There will be Hebrew Tribes and music with flutes, a Palace Playground and food court. They will look for God's Sightings.

Middlecreek is located at the corner of Middlecreek and Dorshimer roads in Kresgeville.

Planning ahead

McMichaels UMC has let its congregation and friends know that already the church is collecting for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child.

For July, parishioners may bring hairpins, barrettes, headbands, rubber bands for hair, and nailclips. In August the request is for glue sticks, Scotch tape, rubber bands, small staplers and staples.

Effort UMC is also planning ahead. That church's UMW is collecting school supplies to make backpacks for the upcoming school year.

Youth group

St. Matthew's UCC's youth group is currently meeting every Wednesday and Friday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. They are working on sets for Vacation Bible School, which will be held July 30-Aug. 3. They will also be meeting every day after VBS.
