Salem UCC July events

The Community Breakfast at Salem UCC in Gilbert is Saturday, July 13 from 8:30-11 a.m. The menu includes: eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, pancakes, juice and coffee. Breakfast is free, but donations are accepted.

Vacation Bible School is the Week of July 15-19 from 6-8:30 p.m. The theme is Galilee-By-The-Sea: Catch Jesus in Action. Ages 3 and up are invited to attend. Parents also are welcome. Children under 3 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Come at 5:30 p.m. for a light dinner.

Art and letters

Ruth Smith, president of the Western Pocono Lioness Club, reports that the Patriotic Coloring Contest the club held recently resulted in a lot of fun for the participating children and families as well as beautiful creations and moving letters to be sent to local Armed Forces personnel through Operation: Touch of Home.

The club's board will meet at noon, July 10, at Cherry's Sunset Diner in Kresgeville. Members are welcome to join the board gathering for the luncheon meeting at her own expense.

Safe Haven Pet Rescue

Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold an adoption day from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at Tractor Supply, Route 209, Brodheadsville.

Safe Haven will have many young dogs available for you to meet and get to know. Safe Haven requires a pre-adoption application with references and a home visit before adoption.

St. Matthew's UCC

Vacation Bible School will take place from July 15-19 from 9-11:30 a.m. for a fun week learning Bible stories, songs, games and crafts. Call (610) 381-2442 to register children.

School help

The Effort United Methodist Women group is collecting school supplies to be given to current Effort UMC food pantry clients and church members who have a need for assistance.

Sign up for school supplies will be the second and fourth Saturdays in July (July 13 and July 26) when the food pantry is open. The only distribution will be at the food pantry the second Saturday in August.

Although previously announced that families will only be assisted for eight lifetime visits, that policy has been changed to 12 lifetime visits.

Safe Haven Pet Rescue

Safe Haven Pet Rescue will have a volunteer meeting on Tuesday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Cherry's Family Restaurant, Route 209 near Route 534, Kresgeville.

Safe Haven is a small group of animal advocates who rescue dogs from high kill and overcrowded shelters and find them loving homes. All dogs are in foster care until their permanent homes are found.

Volunteers are needed for adoption days, dog transport to veterinary and grooming appointments, fundraising, clerical help, home visits and more. Foster homes are needed in order to save more dogs.

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will be guided by a new set of officers beginning July 1. They are Ruth Smith, president; Nancy Beck, vice president; Gail Malocheski, secretary; Maryann Lalumia, treasurer; Mary Ann Cloos, Lion Tamer; Karoline Kormann, Tail Twister; Vera Lovewell and Georganna Wilken, historians; Yvonne Pagano, Carol Heppa, Barbe Sieg, board members.

They were installed by outgoing club President Virginia Lamendola.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, June 27 at Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Co. at 11 a.m. Bring a bag lunch. They will be playing bingo.
