Pleasant Valley Elementary PTO

The monthly PVE PTO meeting will be held on Jan. 13 at 4 p.m. in the school cafeteria. All are welcome to attend.

Safe Haven Pet Rescue

Safe Haven Pet Rescue will have a volunteer meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 6:30 p.m., at Cherry's Sunset Family Restaurant, Route 209, Kresgeville. Local animal lovers are invited to come and have a bite to eat and get to learn more about the organization.

The Tamaqua Cross Country Boosters will meet Jan. 18, at 7 p.m., in the senior high school cafeteria.

Anyone interested in supporting the teams is welcome to attend.

ACS Relay

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life for Tamaqua and surrounding communities will meet at 7 p.m. on Jan. 10, at the Lehigh Carbon Community College Morgan Center on Van Gelder Street.

This meeting is open to all past/current participants as well as anyone else interested in becoming involved.

Panther Valley Senior Center

The remaining list of activities at the Panther Valley Senior Center, 90 East Catawissa St., Nesquehoning is as follows.

On Jan. 17, Deal or No Deal, played at 11 a.m.; Jan. 18 line dancing in the morning; Jan. 19 birthdays celebrated for the month and bingo at 11 a.m. and there will be a salad bar; Jan. 20 darts; Jan. 21 shopping at 9:30 a.m. The center remains open.

TOPS

The local chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets Wednesdays in the education room at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. Weigh-ins begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by a short business session and a program.

TOPS is a weight loss support group for men and women of all ages. Members learn sensible nutrition, portion control and lifestyle changes that promote lifelong health. Visitors are welcome to attend their first meeting without obligation, free of charge.

Rehearsals begin

The Pleasant Valley Choral Society will begin rehearsals this Friday. The rehearsals for the community chorus are held at 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.

Palmerton Area Historical Society

At 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 10, the Palmerton Area Historical Society will meet at the Palmerton Library. John Gunnser will challenge those present to identify antique items from his collection. Members and guests are encouraged to bring their own unusual or unidentified antiques for him and the audience to recognize. The public is invited to attend without cost or obligation.
