Spring concert

The annual Tamaqua Area High/Middle School Spring Vocal Concert will be presented on Thursday in the school district auditorium. Doors will open at 6:45 pm. and the music will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The annual event features performances by the Middle School General and Select Chorus, the Senior High Concert Choir and the Jazz and Concert Chorale. This year's accompanists include Olivia Behr, Hannah Betz, Andrew Delpais, Antonetta Gerace, Francesca Gerace, Cailyn Joseph, Claire Lewis, Patrick McMullen, Sierra Petrucci, Faith Roberts and Olivia Stanek.

Summit Hill

Spring clean up

On Wednesday, May 7, Summit Hill will be hosting its spring clean up for the West side of town along with Laurel Drive and East and West Mountaintop Road. This day will also be regular garbage pickup.

Items to be picked up include: tires (no more than five), tire rims, auto body parts, refrigerators, freezers, vending machines, dehumidifiers, water coolers, heat pumps, washers, dryers and stoves.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 8 at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Co. They will celebrate Mother's Day with prizes for all mothers.

They will be serving ice cream and are looking for donations of cakes.

Exercising seniors

There is a low-impact exercise class for those over 55 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., every Tuesday and Thursday at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company.

Gardening helpline

The Penn State Master gardener program has established a horticulture helpline to answer gardening-related questions from Schuylkill County residents.

The helpline will be available now through Sept. 26. Master gardener volunteers will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, with information about trees, flowers, shrubs, lawns, garden soil, vegetables, insects, plant diseases and more.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton will hold First Saturday worship service at 5 p.m. with Holy Communion. The Rev. Michael Frost, pastor of Zions Stone Church, New Ringgold, will preside.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion is at 9 a.m. Interim pastor, the Rev. Guy R. Grube, will preside. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Sunday School classes meet for students ages 3 through grade 12 at 10:30 a.m. The final session before the summer break is May 18.

Adult Day Care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for May, including a visit from the St. Jerome's kindergarten class on May 29.

Other activities for the month include: May 6, special "Mother's Day breakfast; May 7, sing a long with Audrey Christ; May 15, celebration of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day; May 16, foot doctor; May 21, Salvation Army service and gardening day; May 27, cooking class.

PVEN board

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Council's board of directors will meet at 9 a.m., Thursday, at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville.

Cleaning supplies

The TLC Mom's Group at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding its annual drive for Shepherd's Maternity House. The home's storage closet is in need of cleaning supplies.

Anyone wishing to help is asked to put donations in McCawley Hall in the TLC box. Items will be collected until the group has its last meeting for the year at 9:45 a.m. May 1.

Arts night

The Tamaqua Area Middle School Spring Art Show and Choral Concert will be held on May 8 in the middle school.

The art show will be held from 7-7:30 p.m. in the hallway outside of the auditorium. Students from sixth, seventh and eighth grades will have their art work displayed, including paintings, 3-D interiors, murals, sketches, masks, group projects, cultural art, tiles, watercolor, fashion design, collages and more. There is no entry fee for the art show.

Newspaper drive

Members of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.
