Lehighton man facing meth lab charges

A Lehighton man is facing drug charges related to the operation of a methamphetamine lab.

Jim Thorpe police said Willard John Yons III, 42, of the 2300 block of Fairyland Road, has been charged with felony drug-related counts. Police said Yons was also involved with the sale of drugs.According to police on June 16, Yons fled from his residence when they attempted to serve an arrest warrant. He was captured after a brief foot pursuit and resisted arrest. Yons was eventually subdued and taken into custody.He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, of Lansford, on charges of risking a catastrophe, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possessing phenylpropanolamine, etc., or a precursor substance with intent to unlawfully manufacture, possession of a controlled substance, operating a meth lab and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning after failing to post $50,000 straight cash bail.He has since posted the bail. He has since waved the charges to the county court and is scheduled for a pretrial conference on the charges in the district attorney's office at the courthouse in Jim Thorpe on Oct. 10.State police at Fern Ridge assisted in the arrest of Yons at his residence.
