Man admits sexually assaulting young girl

A Carbon County man, already serving a long federal prison term for child pornography, pleaded guilty in the county court Tuesday to sexually assaulting a young girl over five years ago.

Grant Harris, 38, of Albrightsville, pleaded guilty before Judge Joseph J. Matika to one count of aggravated indecent assault on a person less than 13.Harris was charged by state police at Fern Ridge with sexually assaulting a teenage girl when she was 8 to 12 years old.The assaults occurred during the time frame of January 2008 to December 2012. He forced the girl to perform oral sex on him and other sexual acts at his residence. In exchange for the plea charges of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault and corruption of a minor were dropped. The charges were filed by state troopers in July 2015, but the case was delayed in the county court due to the pending federal charges. On April 11, Harris was sentenced in federal court in Scranton to 16½ years in prison for producing child pornography.Harris previously pleaded guilty to persuading and enticing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual image of that conduct.Harris committed the crime between 2008 and 2009, when the victim was 8 years old. Harris was indicted by a federal grand jury in November 2015, shortly after agents and police discovered the child pornography on a computer used by Harris.Matika deferred sentencing because the charge falls under the provisions of Megan's Law.Harris will have to be evaluated by the state sexual offenders assessment board to determine if he is a sexually violent predator. If it is determined that he is, he will have to register for life as a sexual offender. Otherwise, the registration period is 25 years.Harris is currently an inmate in the Lackawanna County prison on the federal charges pending his transfer to a federal prison.
