Cold spell

Dear Editor,

This cold spell we are having reminds me of when I was young. I lived in the 500 block of East Abbott Street in Lansford. We used a big heatroller for heat (no radiators). It heated the whole house (burning coal). Downstairs was the kitchen with a coal stove for cooking and eating, no bathroom, we had a toilet in the room where there was a coal bin.Boy was that seat cold! You didn't sit in there and read the paper. My mom used to give the three of us a bath in a washtub. I think she used the same water for the three of us.Boy things were tough, no money, no food, cornmeal only, clothes from the neighbor. The Horky Poker Ice Creamery. Buy two ask for extra cone, put ice cream from each into extra cone, but we survived.@$:God bless all of youStephen Herbert
