On June 5 at 3 p.m., Albert Jonathan Guzman, 22, of Effort, was shot in the torso by Dylan Michael Frantz, 20, of Kunkletown, according to police.

Frantz was placed under arrest on two counts of aggravated assault and is being held in Monroe County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail.On Monday, the motive of the shooting was revealed when an arrest warrant was issued for Guzman.He is being charged with viciously assaulting Frantz just prior to the shooting.Guzman, according to the affidavit, punched Frantz in the face, causing several abrasions, bleeding and a broken nose.The affidavit says he also "slammed Frantz against a wall, several times" and "threatened to burn off Frantz's tattoos with a blowtorch, which he showed to Frantz."Guzman was charged by troopers at the Lehighton barracks of the state police with kidnapping, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, simple assault, unauthorized use of automobiles and harassment.According to court documents, Guzman not only held Frantz against his will, but also Alexis J. Finkel and Elizabeth Finkel, transporting them "a substantial distance" from where they had met him, to "a place of isolation" where he threatened to "kill, burn and ... cause further bodily harm."The news of Guzman's arrest warrant came just prior to a scheduled preliminary hearing for Frantz on Monday before District Judge Jolana Krawitz of Stroudsburg. That hearing has been continued until 11:15 a.m. Monday, July 7.He was returned to the Monroe County Correctional Facility.The brutalizing of Frantz occurred because he had stolen drugs and money from Guzman the preceding evening, court papers say.Frantz was arrested by Trooper Erin K. Cawley and Cpl. William Gross of the Lehighton barracks of the state police on June 5 at the home of Alexis Finkel, 200 Sycamore Drive, Eldred Township.At the residence, Frantz fired a single shot into the torso of Guzman, police said. Guzman was flown to St. Luke's Hospital-Bethlehem, where he underwent emergency surgery.He has since been discharged from the hospital.Frantz admitted to police that he shot Guzman with a .45 caliber Taurus ACP gun and said he shot Guzman because Guzman had threatened to kill him.Court papers say Guzman placed a post on a social media website offering $500 to anyone who would give him information leading to Frantz.Guzman asked a third party to set up a meeting at Sonny's Express Mart in Kresgeville.Frantz arrived at the mini mart in a car driven by Alexis J. Finkel. Elizabeth Finkel was also in the car, a Volkswagen bug registered to William C. Finkel, father of Alexis.Guzman got into the driver's seat of the car and drove all the occupants about five miles, against their will to 246 New York Blvd., Polk Township, the residence of Guzman's grandfather, according to court papers.It was at the Polk Township address that Guzman assaulted Frantz, the police report says, threatening to kill Frantz if he did not reveal where the cocaine and guns were that Frantz had stolen from him.Upon learning the cocaine and guns were at the Finkel residence, Guzman ordered Frantz to drive him and the Finkels to that location, court papers say.As the Finkels got out of the vehicle at their home, Frantz shot Guzman, according to police.
