Grant writing program scheduled

A common misconception in the grant writing process is that the actual proposal is a major component of the grant seeking process.

To be successful, grant writing entails careful planning, research and outreach as well as cultivating relationships.Penn State Extension is offering a free grant writing program for nonprofit organizations and municipalities seeking financial support for a project. The program, sponsored by the Carbon County Interagency Council, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 9 at the Carbon County Emergency Management Agency, 1264 Emergency Lane, Nesquehoning, located on the Broad Mountain off Route 93.The workshop will address how to work effectively with foundations, components of an effective proposal, evaluation strategies and how a grant proposal is reviewed.It will conclude with a panel presentation of representatives from local foundations and a state senator's office.The workshop is recommended for staff, volunteers and board members of community nonprofits, local governments and other community organizations.To register, go to
