Meth lab may have caused late-night fire

Tamaqua Police are searching for two people in connection with a fire at 14 W. Broad St. on Wednesday night.

Police, fire and emergency personnel were dispatched to 14 W. Broad St. at 10:31 p.m. for a possible fire. The Schuylkill County Communications Center advised responding personnel the fire was possibly "Act 64 (methamphetamine lab) involved."Police were first to arrive and saw smoke escaping from under the door of apartment 5. When no one answered the officer's calls, the patrolman opened the unlocked door and found a small fire in the bathroom, which he quickly extinguished.Firefighters from the Tamaqua Fire Department double checked and made sure the fire was out while police searched the apartment for any possible occupants.Officers located several objects consistent with the making of methamphetamine and obtained a search warrant, removing a number of items from the apartment.The occupants were identified as Kelsey Anderson, 21, and Thomas Heiser, 33. Police have questions for the pair.
