Sorority helping community

Three local nonprofit organizations benefited from the community service efforts of members of the PA Torchbearer Theta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Tamaqua. Checks in the amount of $200 each were presented Monday to Darlene Smith, Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care facilities manager, Bob Derr, Chief/Director of the Tamaqua Rescue Squad and Jessica Bettinger, shelter manager of the Ruth Steinert SPCA. Making the donation on behalf of the sorority were Sharon Connely, president, and Kay Ann Rottet. The sorority chapter's most recent fundraiser was a Boscov's Friends and Family event. The chapter meets twice monthly. The next meeting will be held on Dec. 11.
