Lehigh man facing multiple counts

A Whitehall man faces numerous charges stemming from a traffic stop in McAdoo on May 5.

Patrolman Steven Homanko was on patrol at 2:22 a.m. when he observed a red Acura illegally passing another vehicle on North Kennedy Drive. The Acura had heavily tinted windows and the driver also failed to use a turn signal. Homanko pursued the vehicle and instituted a vehicle stop.The four occupants, three males and a female, were uncooperative and Homanko called for back up. All four occupants eventually complied with Homanko's directions and exited the car.The female told police she was 18, but a records check indicated she was a juvenile. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Juan Bermudez-Gil Jr., 27, of Whitehall.The three men were patted down with no weapons being found, but a Smith & Wesson handgun was observed in the girl's open handbag. The S&W 40 caliber weapon was fully loaded, with a round in the chamber.The teen told police "Juan" had placed the gun in her purse telling her he did not have the proper permits for the weapon.Bermudez-Gil was charged with providing a firearm to a minor, carrying a firearm without a license, corruption of minors, reckless driving, careless driving, driving in the wrong lane, failure to use a turn signal, passing in a no passing zone, driving at an unsafe speed and driving with an obstructed windshield.
