Jim Thorpe Chamber is formally changing its name to Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency.

The Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency will focus to promote tourism in the area.To celebrate, there will be a mixer from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the Broadway Grill, downtown Jim Thorpe. There will be complementary appetizers, cash bar and raffle. There is a fee. RSVP at

nancyz@innit.com.Officials said in a statement that this brings two unique organization in Carbon County the opportunity to work together in a well-defined manner on issues concerning Jim Thorpe tourism.The name change is anticipated to bring its focus back to Jim Thorpe tourism.In February, the Jim Thorpe Chamber decided that it would separate from the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce, which recently has merged with the Carbon County Economic Development Corporation.The split does not mean the two entities will not support each other's operations in the future, rather it now means there will be more opportunities for help.The Jim Thorpe Chamber will continue operations as it has, but focus in on the area it knows best; while the Carbon County chamber will promote area businesses and organizations throughout the county.The Jim Thorpe Chamber adjusted its bylaws to create a new name for the group that will help build a strong brand for the organization.
