Driver facing DUI after crash

A Lackawanna County driver is facing charges, including driving under the influence and drug counts, following a crash that occurred at 4:54 a.m. on May 18 at Route 940 and Interstate 380, in Tobyhanna Township.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said officers were dispatched to a reported crash and found a Ford Focus was driven at a high rate of speed with the driver failing to negotiate a curve to the access ramp to I-380 north. The vehicle crashed into the guide rail. The driver then fled the scene.

Officers began checking the area and observed a man exiting the Exxon station just west of the crash scene. The man took off running upon seeing police. The man was located behind the Enterprise Rental Car business near the station.

The man was taken into custody and identified as Troy Theodore Virgo, 22, of Scranton. He was found to be intoxicated and in possession of suspected marijuana. He was placed under arrest and charged with DUI, possession of a controlled substance, leaving the scene of a crash and criminal trespass.
