Woman injured during 2-vehicle accident

A Tamaqua woman was taken to the hospital following a two vehicle accident that occurred just before 10 a.m. yesterday at the Leiby's intersection (SR309 and 443) in South Tamaqua. West Penn Township police reported that Carol Krout, Tamaqua, driving a red Toyota RAV4 north on SR309, turned into the path of George Buzosi of Tamaqua, who was driving a tan Chevrolet Venture van south on SR309. Gladys Bates, also of Tamaqua, a passenger in the van, was taken via ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital. The impact caused major damage to the front of the Chevrolet and passenger side of the Toyota. The incident caused traffic to be backed up at the intersection as both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. The incident also resulted in damage to a road sign. No other serious injuries were reported. Responding, in addition to West Penn Township Police, were, Penn Mahoning Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance, West Penn Fire Company, Tamaqua Rescue Squad and West Penn Fire Police.
