A Schuylkill County driver is facing charges, including driving under the influence (DUI), following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 12:35 a.m. today.

State police at Frackville said Thomas Zimmerman, 53, of Gilberton, was driving a 1998 Ford Taurus eastbound on SR4030 in the village of Mahanoy Plane when he drove off the south side of the road.The car struck a stop sign, continued east, struck the top of a concrete drainage basin, and became stuck on top of the basin.Troopers said Zimmerman then fled the scene on foot but was located a short time later hiding in a wooded area. He appeared to be under the influence.Troopers said Zimmerman, who was not injured, is facing several charges incident to the crash with the DUI charge pending.
