Blood center honors local high school students

Students attending several local high schools were among the 7,000 individuals, including principals, teachers, student council presidents, athletes, musicians, and other students helped save lives by participating in the Miller-Keystone Blood Center 2012-2013 high school campaign.

Locally the successes were celebrated at the Mahoning Valley Country Club.Through this high school campaign, more than 6,000 units of blood were collected, providing the gift of life for more than 15,000 patients at hospitals throughout the Pennsylvania and New Jersey counties served by MKBC.Among the local schools participating were: Carbon Career and Technical Institute, Jim Thorpe High School, Lehighton High School, Marian Catholic High School, Northern Lehigh High School, Northwestern Lehigh High School, Palmerton High School, Panther Valley High School and Tamaqua High SchoolAlso several students were awarded scholarships by MKBC. Awarded scholarships were Miriam Munoz, Northwestern High School; Lauren Pickrell, Carbon Career and Technical Institute; Kasey Rossell, Marian Catholic High School; and Lauren Zurn, Jim Thorpe High School.
