A Schuylkill County dog owner is facing charges following an incident that occurred about 6:34 p.m. on Monday, April 1, in the area of 22 Pike St., Port Carbon.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said a eight-year-old girl from Port Carbon was walking at the above location with her mother when a Saint Bernard came out of a residence and bit her on the right hand causing two puncture wounds. She was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville, for treatment.The dog owner was identified as Vickie Hendrix-Smith, 46. She was not home at the time troopers said, but will be cited for a dog law violation.
