Pleasant Valley wins three 2012 Spotlight Awards

On Sunday, May 20, the Tony Awards-style Sherman Theater SPOTLIGHT Awards Gala Ceremony was presented on the Sherman Theater stage, 524 Main St., Stroudsburg, where nominees performed and award recipients were announced.

Pleasant Valley High School's "Oklahoma" was nominated for a record number of categories (23) for this year's Spotlight Awards. PV won Outstanding Scenic Achievement, Outstanding Lobby Display Achievement, and Outstanding Performance by a Featured Ensemble Member - Devin Cetnar.Modeled after Broadway's Tony Awards, the Sherman Theater SPOTLIGHT Awards were created to encourage and reward exceptional accomplishments in the production of Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Wayne Counties, (Pennsylvania) school musicals.Recognition of outstanding achievement by students and educators were made in the areas of performance, direction, choreography, technical production and overall production excellence.The SPOTLIGHT Award Corps of Evaluators, comprised of theatre professionals, performing artists and designers, and theatre arts educators, fanned out across the counties shows at all entered schools and made nominations in 23 various performance and production categories.Four evaluators attended each school's production.This annual event honors regional high school thespians for their efforts in their musical productions. The Spotlight Awards serve as a reminder of how important art and music programs are to schools. With art and music classes being cut from curriculums every year it is crucial for the community to show their support for these programs.The Participating Schools this year are:1.
