Summit Hill driver facing DUI count

Lee Michalick, 28, 442 W. White St., Summit Hill, faces charges from an incident which took place on Dec. 31 on W. Patterson St., Lansford.

Charges of two counts of driving under the influence (DUI) and accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle or property were filed by Officer Jeffrey Ohl.According to an affidavit of probable cause, Ohl responded to a hit-and-run on West Patterson Street at 4:52 a.m. The dispatcher said the vehicle, a dark colored SUV, was last seen traveling east on Patterson Street.As Ohl approached Patterson and Springgarden streets, he saw a blue Ford Explorer, with steam coming from the front of it, traveling up Springgarden Street.He stopped the car at Abbott Street and saw that it had heavy front end damage.He spoke to the driver, Michalick, whose breath smelled of alcohol and who had red, glassy eyes.Michalick admitted to having been drinking and having hit a parked car and leaving the scene.Michalick agreed to take field sobriety tests but after attempting the first one, stopped and changed his mind.He was arrested and taken for a blood test. The test revealed his blood alcohol level to be 0.26 percent. The drunken driving threshold is 0.08 percent, according to law.Ohl went to the scene of the hit-and-run, and found that two cars had been struck and damaged, allegedly by Michalick.
