A homeless man was jailed, charged with a strong arm robbery incident in Monroe County.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said about 10:26 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, they responded to the parking lot at the Kmart store in Mount Pocono for the report of a strong arm robbery of a purse.On scene the victim, Maria McGowan, 62, of Mount Pocono, and several witnesses, said the suspect grabbed the purse and fled on foot into nearby woods. McGowan and the witnesses were able to give a description of the suspect and some of the witnesses followed the suspect and provided helpful information, police added.A time later a man matching the description was observed walking along Fairveiw Avenue, at Heath Lane. He was stopped and identified as John Franklin Hughes III, 18, with no address and considered homeless.Hughes was postiviely identified as the person who stole the purse. He was charged with robbery, theft, and receiving stolen property. He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Snydersville after failing to post $5,000 cash bail. Pocono Township police assisted in the investigation.
