GOP to meet

The Panther Valley Republican Club will elect officers for two-year terms at a meeting tonight at 6:30 in the Community Room of Maple Shade, Nesquehoning.

Any Republican from Lansford, Nesquehoning or Summit Hill who has not yet filled out a membership application can do so at this meeting or by mail to PV GOP, 243 W. High St., Nesquehoning, Pa. 18240.

Summit Hill

Historical society

The Summit Hill Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting tonight at 7 o'clock at its new museum, the former Jean McFadden's Grocery Store, 146 W. Ludlow St. Lee Mantz, president, will conduct the business session.

Much of the evening will be devoted to unpacking boxes associated with the relocation of the headquarters from its previous site on East Ludlow Street.

Members are reminded articles/submissions for the newsletter are due at this time.

Members will be discussing a grand re-opening planned for the Memorial Day weekend, as well as a float to be entered in the annual Summit Hill Memorial Day Parade.

Future meetings of the society will be held on Wednesdays, March 21, April 18 and May 16.

St. Paul Lutheran

The Rev. Richard Hinkle, a retired pastor from Weatherly, will lead the worship service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, on Sunday, Feb. 19. It will begin at 10:30 a.m. The Sunday school will meet at 9 a.m.

SHCIO meeting

The Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization will meet on Monday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in the Summit Hill Borough Hall. Sara Ruch, the Lansford-Summit Hill Partnership manager, will address the group and give her report as to the banners for the Ludlow Park Celebration to be held 2014 and the printing of the new walking tour brochure.

Also to be discussed will be the Hill Top Community Center sign to be put in place this spring at the new hall located on Ludlow Street. All interested persons are welcome to attend.

Babe Ruth

Lansford Babe Ruth officers and coaches are invited to a reorganizational meeting to be held tonight at 7 o'clock at the American Legion on Ridge Street, Lansford.

St. John Lutheran

St. John Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will hold an informal worship at 7 o'clock tonight. This will be a spiritual, peaceful, evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief, musical, evening prayer.

For those who wish to come early, a free simple supper will be served at 6 o'clock, followed by a brief adult Bible study and Confirmation program at 6:30.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansford, regular morning worship service, with communion, will be held on Sunday Feb. 19 at 9:30 a.m. A spoken Ash Wednesday service, with communion, will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Roy H. Koehler will officiate.

Shepherd House

The Shepherd House Food Pantry at Meed's Methodist Church will be open on Thursday, Feb. 16, from 1-3:30 p.m. Recipients must reside in Nesquehoning and fall within the TEFAP income guidelines.
