A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) of a controlled substance following an incident in Carbon County.

Jim Thorpe police said about 4:14 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, officers were dispatched to the area of 300 W. Broadway for a one-vehicle crash. On scene officers observed a PPL utility pole snapped in pieces and the driver of a Chevrolet truck about 100 feet from the pole.

The driver of the truck was identified as John Michael Jasinsky, 44, of 2 Grier Ave., Barnesville. Jasinsky told police he was westbound when, for some unknown reason, he struck the pole.

Jasinsky displayed signs of impairment and admitted to smoking marijuana and taking an unknown, non-prescribed pill to help him sleep, police said.

Jasinsky was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and was taken to the Lehighton hospital for a blood test. The test results revealed the presence of marijuana in Jasinsky's blood.

He has been charged with two counts of DUI-controlled substance, and a summary charge of careless driving.
