Fifteen enter guilty pleas

Fifteen persons in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas on Thursday in Carbon County court before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Nanovic accepted the pleas from the following:Jahmal Davis Arnold Jr., 19, of Erie, pleaded guilty to one count of escape, as a felony three. Arnold was placed in the Youth Services Camp Adams, in Penn Forest Township, in September 2010, by the Erie County juvenile court. He left the camp on Oct. 24, 2010, without permission which led to the escape charge. He was later apprehended in the Allentown area.Nanovic sentenced him to serve two to one day less 24 months in the county prison and ordered he supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee. He was given credit for 65 days spent in jail on the charge and was paroled.Arnold will remain in the county prison since Erie County has placed a detainer on him for the original criminal charge.David W. Dannenfelser, 42, of Shenandoah, pleaded to one count of theft. He was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge for taking various building materials belonging to Twin Builders of Albrightsville in September 2005. Dannenfelser resided in the Albrightsville area at the time and was employed by the company.Nanovic sentenced him to time served (66 days) to one day less two years in jail. Dannenfelser was also ordered to make restitution of $5,314.70 to Twin Builders.Joseph R. Debalso, 39, of Lattimer Mines, Luzerne County, pleaded to one count each of habitual offender and driving while under suspension-DUI related. He was arrested following an accident on May 31 along First St., in Lehighton. Police took him for a blood test with the result being .05BAC, under the legal limit of .08.On the habitual offender count Nanovic sentenced him to serve one to 18 months in prison and on the suspension charge 60 days in jail. The terms run concurrently.Debalso was also ordered to pay a fine of $500, and get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment. It was noted that Debalso's license has been suspended by PennDOT to the year 2017.He began the jail term immediately.Cameron M. Klotz, 25, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of simple assault. In exchange for the plea, the district attorney's office dropped a count of aggravated assault.Klotz was arrested for an incident on Aug. 1, 2010, in which he assaulted Christine Bjorkman, who was identified as his ex-girlfriend.Nanovic placed him on probation for 18 months and ordered he get a D&A evaluation and have no contact with Bjorkman. It was noted there is a protection from abuse (PFA) order in place for 18 months which also includes a no contact provision.Raymond Ziegenfuss Jr., 41, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of defiant trespass. He was arrested on Aug. 2 at the Sam Miller Field in Jim Thorpe. Ziegenfuss was previously told he was not allowed on the property.Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and told him he was not allowed on the field.Trisha Marie Andrews, 32, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance-oxycodone. She was arrested on March 24 in the parking lot of the Giant Market in Mahoning Township when she sold oxycodone to a undercover agent of the state Attorney General' office.Nanovic deferred sentencing to a later date. Andrews is currently in custody on a probation violation.Karla Kim Grohotolski, 46, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count each of possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Sept. 25 at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township. Police responded to the store for a report of two persons being held for retail theft.While taking Grohotolski into custody police searched her purse and found the drug items.Nanovic placed her on probation for a year and ordered she get a D&A evaluation and imposed zero tolerance on D&A use with random testing.Blaine Kirchner, 48, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of retail theft. He was the second person involved in the incident with Grohotolski. He was found to have taken items valued at $190.76.Nanovic noted that Kirchner has prior criminal convictions.Kirchner was sentenced to serve one to 12 months in prison and ordered to get a D&A evaluation and make restitution of $190.76.He begins the jail term at 11 a.m. on Dec. 5 and was granted work release privileges.Christopher Mertz, 20, of Weissport, pleaded to two counts of receiving stolen property. He was arrested by Weissport police for his part in the theft of two bicycles belonging to Todd Fisher and Steven Mansueto, respectively.Nanovic placed him on probation for 18 months on both counts, running concurrently, and ordered he make restitution of $600 to the victims.Leva Marlow, 27, of Wilkes-Barre, pleaded to one count of false identification to law enforcement. He was stopped along the northeast extension of the turnpike in Penn Forest Township for going 85 miles-per-hour in a 65 zone. He gave the arresting state trooper from the Pocono barracks a false name. After the trooper confronted him about the name he admitted he had lied.Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and ordered he pay a fine of $500. The term runs consecutive to a probation term Marlow is currently serving in Luzerne County. He was given credit for nine days spent in the county prison.DUI pleasThe following defendants entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence (DUI) counts.William Francis Walsh, 42, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Aug. 12, 2009, along SR903 in Jim Thorpe. Given a test, the result was .23BAC.Nanovic deferred sentencing to a later date. It was noted this is Walsh's second conviction for DUI.Dennis C. Dotter, 58, of Lehighton, was arrested on July 1 along Spring Hill Road, in Mahoning Township. Given a test, the result was .30BAC.As a first offense, Dotter was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation.Samuel M. Sise, 58, of Lehighton, was arrested on June 24 along Mauch Chunk St., in Mahoning Township. Given a test, the result was .10BAC.As a first offense, Sise was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation.Ronald Johnson, 31, of Lehighton, was arrested on Sept. 2 in the 500 block of Iron St., Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .20BAC.Johnson had a prior DUI conviction, but because it was over 10 years ago, he was treated as a first offender and placed on probation for six months, ordered to pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation.John Moser, 28, of Lehighton, was arrested on July 22 along Beaver Run Drive in Mahoning Township. Given a test, the result was .14BAC.Nanovic deferred sentencing to a later date.All defendants sentenced must also pay court costs, which average near $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
