Rush bicentennial

The Rush Township Bicentennial Community Day has been rescheduled for Oct. 30.The special event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rush Township Municipal Building.Festivities will include appearances by WMGH radio personalities Polka Joe Manjack and Ann Marie Calabrese, historical exhibits, business displays and giveaways, St. Luke's health screenings, face painting, coloring and free refreshments and door prizes.The public is welcome to attend.For more information, call (570) 668-2938.North/Middle Ward newsThe North and Middle Ward Playground Association will be participating in Tamaqua's community trick or treat night on Oct. 31.Tricksters will be treated to candy, snacks and soft drinks.Hours will be from 6-8 p.m.Whitewash eventThe Tamaqua Area School District will conduct its annual whitewashing event this Friday, beginning at 3 p.m.Students will take to the roadway in front of the high school to make their marks in celebration of the event.Motorists will be restricted from travel in the area and should be prepared to take alternate routes.St. John UCCThe Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Harvest Home Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ.Canned goods will be collected and donated to a local food pantry.A Harvest Home meal will be served following the service.The weekly service is broadcast on radio station WLSH, AM1410, at 11:30 a.m. Sundays.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Bell Choir will meet at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.
