A hearing in Harrisburg on a Reapportionment Plan that would mean moving Summit Hill out of the 122nd Legislative District has been postponed until Wednesday.

The hearing was scheduled for noon today.William O'Gurek, chairman of the Carbon County Board of Commissioners, said the hearing was postponed because the reapportionment plan involves the entire state and there are too many individuals who want to testify to have the session held in one day.There still will be a hearing today, but only for reapportionment of districts in the western part of the state.He was critical about having the hearing for the eastern part of the state changed until Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, when individuals are busy traveling and preparing for family gatherings.Under the reapportionment plan, Summit Hill would be removed from the 122nd Legislative District, whose representative presently is Doyle Heffley, and moved to the 124th Legislative District, whose representative is Jerry Knowles.O'Gurek said the 122nd Legislative District present encompasses the entire county. Summit Hill would be the only borough moved to the 124th District, which includes much of Schuylkill County and a portion of Berks County.O'Gurek and former State Representative Keith McCall, who had served as Speaker of the House, plan to travel to Harrisburg on Wednesday to oppose the proposal. Both are Summit Hill residents.Also, petitions are being circulated throughout the community of Summit Hill in which signers oppose the move. The petitions are available at the borough hall and at several businesses.O'Gurek said already there are several hundred signatures on the petitions.The reapportionment committee is comprised of two representatives from the Delaware County area and three from Allegheny County.
