Named Guiding Star

Kelsey Alexandra Hay, daughter of Milissa and James Hay of Sawmill Lane, Lehighton, has been named a November's Guiding Star by the Concourse Club of Palmerton. She has a sister, Kacie and a brother, Spencer.

She is treasurer of Student Council, member of the Leo Club, Environmental Club, Yearbook President, FBLA, National Honor Society, vice president of the senior class of 2012, member of Student Forum and is a math and Spanish tutor.She is involved in basketball, where she is captain of the Lady Bombers for three years, takes part in track and field, where she has been captain for two years. She also competed in the PIAA State Track and Field events.Her hobbies include scrap booking and reading. She is interested in working with children and has worked for the Palmerton Area Recreation program the past two summers.Her community activities include working with Carbon County Special Olympics and the Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley.She plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania to major in health sciences and to compete on the University's track and field team.The Concourse Club honors five Guiding Stars from Palmerton Area High School each year.A Guiding Star is a female student in the top 25 percent of the senior class, involved in both school and community activities. Each Guiding Star receives a certificate, an engraved Guiding Star gold charm and a $100 cash award from the Concourse Club.
