Guided tours at Locktender's House

The Locktender's House will be open for guided tours on Sunday, June 5 from 2-4 p.m.

The recently restored basement area is now part of the tour. New displays in this area include photos of past Canal Festivals, the 1953 canal restoration, the Lock 23 restoration, historic canal photos, and a display of artifacts found during the restoration of Lock 23.

The house will also be open July 10, Aug. 7, Sept. 11, Oct. 2 and Oct. 16. Stop in to see these new displays and learn about life in the late 1800s.

C&D Landscaping, Walnutport, recently performed the annual maintenance on the landscaping on both sides of Main Street and the Locktender's House. This involved cleaning the areas of debris, trimming existing plants, fertilizing, and applying fresh mulch.

Funding for the project was provided by a grant from Northampton County.

The canal association is grateful for the volunteers who came out on April 30 for the annual cleanup, and to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans for coffee, doughnuts and lunch.

Tax office closed

The office of William A. Stein, tax collector for the borough of Slatington, will be closed on Wednesday, May 25 due to the fact that he will be in a training class that day. Stein apologizes for any inconvenience it may cause.
