Wendy Marek and Scott Murphy exchange vows

Wendy Marek and Scott Murphy were united in marriage on Oct. 9, 2010 at St. John's Orthodox Church in Nesquehoning.

The Rev. Robert Teklinski officiated the double ring ceremony.Given in marriage by her parents, Michael and Christine Marek of Nesquehoning, the bride chose her cousin, Natalie Angst of Drums, to serve as matron of honor.Bridesmaids included Kristin Untisz, Fairborn, Ohio; Melissa Sweigart, Mifflinburg, Pa.; and Johanna Murphy, Annandale, Va., sister-in-law of the bridegroom.Flower girls were Lucy Angst, Drums, goddaughter of the bride; and Makenna Murphy, Annandale, goddaughter of the bridegroom.The bridegroom is the son of James and the late Linda Evans Murphy, and stepson of Linda Murphy, Tamaqua. He chose his brother, Jim Murphy, Annandale, to perform the best man duties. Groomsmen included Mike Runk, Tamaqua; Matt Hartung, Harrisburg; and Tim Murphy, Tamaqua, cousin of the bridegroom.Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Schuylkill Country Club in Orwigsburg. The couple took a honeymoon trip to St. Lucia.The new Mrs. Murphy is a 2002 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School. She received her doctor of pharmacy degree in 2008 from Wilkes University. She is currently employed as a pharmacist at Hazle Drugs and Hazle Compounding in Hazleton.Mr. Murphy is a 2001 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School. In 2005 he received degrees in recreation and park management, and business and marketing from Penn State University, University Park.He is currently employed as a golf professional and a member of the management team at the Schuylkill Country Club in Orwigsburg.Prenuptial parties for the couple included a bridal shower at St. John's Orthodox Church, hosted by the mother of the bride, stepmother of the bridegroom, and the bridesmaids; and a rehearsal dinner, hosted by the bridegroom's family at Macaluso's Restaurant in Nesquehoning.The newlyweds currently reside in Nesquehoning.
