Dog confronts burglars

State police at Lehighton said unknown criminals attempted to break into a Monroe County residence but were scared off when they were confronted by a pitbull.

Troopers said the incident occurred at the home of Lornett Upshaw, 53, of 10 Lower Valley Rd., in Kunkletown, Polk Township. Sometime between 6:03 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. on Monday, June 13, an attempt was made to enter the home by cutting a screen to a kitchen window. When the burglars attempted to enter Upshaw's dog confronted them and scared them off, troopers said.Troopers also reported two other incidents.The unlocked vehicle of Robert Mickey, 60, of 275 Squirrelwood Court, Effort, Polk Township, was entered while parked at his residence. Removed was the registration and insurance cards. The incident occurred sometime between June 10-13.Judy Schuller, 45, of Stroudsburg, reported someone dumped 21 bags of garbage on her property at 361 Interchange Rd., in Polk Township, sometime between 12:38 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, and 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Also, two bags were placed in her rented dumpster, troopers said.
