Alzheimer's support group forming

Caregiver stress is a well-known and serious consequence of long term caregiving, yet many family caregivers do not know where to turn for help. They frequently ignore their own physical and emotional needs in order to care for loved ones suffering with Alzheimer's Disease.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, an Alzheimer's Support Group will meet at St. John's Lutheran Church, 319 South Ave., Jim Thorpe. The group will meet on the first and third Wednesdays of each month."I hope to provide caregivers with the knowledge and skills needed to cope with the day-to-day stresses of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia," says Pat Anglovich, volunteer support group facilitator. Anglovich was caregiver for her father, Frank Ruff, who suffered from Alzheimer's until his death in 2008.Join the free support group for discussions about aging, memory loss and living with Alzheimer's Disease or other forms of dementia. The group will enable caregivers to share their experiences and recognize their own needs and seek outside assistance when appropriate.According to the Alzheimer's Association, taking care of yourself is one of the most important ways to be a healthy caregiver. Whether it is by attending educational programs, participating in support groups or just talking with friends and family, adequate support is vital. Those who have been caregivers know you are doing the best you can. Don't feel guilty because you can't do more. For more information on the support group, call Pat at (610) 392-2380 or drop her an email at
