At the same time, they're able to soak up all of the nuances scouting has to offer.It's no wonder then, why the annual Palmerton Day Camp is a big hit with youngsters.After five fun-filled, action-packed days, the camp wrapped up on Friday at Palmerton Memorial Park.Lee Moyer, camp director, said the theme of this year's day camp was "Winter Wonderland."Moyer said the camp was designed for Cub Scouts in grades 1-5."Our biggest goal is for the kids to have fun, and to let them know what scouting is," Moyer said. "They learn a lot about scouting, citizenship, how to get along with each other, and a lot of cooperation."Jason Check, a fourth-grade student at Slatington Elementary in the Northern Lehigh School District, said he enjoys the camp because he likes "doing stuff new.""I learned how to ride a bike, canoe, row a boat, and it helped me with my science and social studies," said Jason, 9, of Slatington. "It taught me lots of new things; that it's not easy earning awards, but that it's fun when you have them and use them."Alex Strauss, a fifth-grade student at L.B. Morris Elementary in the Jim Thorpe Area School District, said he enjoys crafts and shooting BB rifles."I have a lot of fun, and I have a very nice teacher," said Alex, 10, of Jim Thorpe.
