Anna Temchatin, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community, Weatherly, celebrated her 91st birthday on Dec. 27.
She was born in 1920 in Hazleton, where she has lived her entire life. She had two sisters, Mary and Helen, and a brother, John, who passed away in recent years.
Her husband of almost 40 years, Wassil, passed away in 1989.
Anna has two sons, Basil and Jack; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
She is a devout Catholic and a member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hazleton.
Anna has always been a hard worker, beginning in high school when her father died from a mining accident and continuing through the first half of her marriage, while working in a sewing factory and maintaining the family household.
Upon retiring from the sewing industry, she continued to make beautiful quilts, blankets, pillow cases and other decorative and functional creations for family and friends.
Even now she continues to ask for needles and thread to fix clothing.
