The Jim Thorpe girls basketball team and the Northwestern wrestling team both posted victories on Wednesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Weatherly-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe used a big first half to run away with a 60-35 non-league victory over Weatherly.

Celeste Robinson scored 16 of her game-high 28 points in the first quarter to lead the Olympians. Chelsea Smelas added 13 points for the Thorpe.

Alicia Panzarella went off in the fourth quarter to score all of her team-high 11 points for Weatherly.

Jim Thorpe moves to 2-0 on the season. Weatherly drops to 1-2.

In the JV game, Jim Thorpe recorded a 55-38 win.

After finding itself in an early hole, Northwestern dug itself out quickly by winning the next seven matches and went to post a 33-30 Colonial League win over Notre Dame of Green Pond.

Trailing 18-0 after three matches, Ethan Keichel sparked a turn-around with a major decision at 138. After that, Alex Russo (152) and Mike Ortiz (160) keyed a 33-0 run with pins, while Mitchell Evans scored a forfeit at 170.

Dave Tirpak added a technical fall at 195, which gave the Tigers enough of a lead to counter for two forfeits to end the match.
