Jim Thorpe High School captures 7th straight Academic Meet

Weatherly Area High School was the host for the Carbon County Academic Meet last week with all five of the Carbon County public high schools, Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Palmerton, Panther Valley, Weatherly, and also Marian Catholic High School participating.

For the seventh consecutive year, the winner of the Carbon County Academic Meet was the team from Jim Thorpe Area High School.Each of the high schools brought four team members and two alternates.The judges for the meet were from the Carbon Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR).State Representative Doyle Heffley, 122nd District, was the quizmaster for the Championship Round.Representative Heffley stated that "it was an honor to be here with all the students, all of the schools did a great job."He added that "it was a cliffhanger with only a five point difference in the finals. I was really impressed by the knowledge of the students."The winning team took home the trophy provided by the Carbon Chapter PASR.The winning school's name and date will be engraved on the trophy which will remain at the winning school until next year's competition.Congratulations went out to all of the teams for their outstanding performances during the Meet.
