The Pleasant Valley softball team and Northwestern soccer team both picked up victories on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

Pleasant Vy.-ES South

Pleasant Valley ran away with a 17-2 Mountain Valley Conference victory over East Stroudsburg South in a game that was ended in three innings by the mercy rule.

Dianne Klapatch led the Bears with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate, which included three singles, three runs scored and and three RBIs.

Kasey Meckes followed with two singles and four runs scored for PV (2-2 overall, 2-0 MVC). Rachel Sisco had two singles and two runs scored and Christine Klingel added two singles and two RBIs.

Bears' pitcher Hayli Marini only allowed two hits and struck out six.

N'western-Moravian

Northwestern handed Moravian Academy its first loss of the season, posting a 4-2 Colonial League victory.

After a scoreless first half, Katie Hughes paced a strong second half for the Tigers with a goal and an assist. Emily Iobst, Anna Fricchione and Abagail Schneck chipped in with goals, while Haley Kubat was credited with an assist.

Kelly Boyd finished with seven saves between the NW posts.

Northwestern improves to 5-1 overall, while Moravian Academy falls to 3-1.

Palmerton-No. Dame

Colleen Elward scored a goal in overtime to lift Notre Dame of Green Pond to a 4-3 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

Casey Rinfret's hat-trick wasn't quite enough to help the Bombers (0-3 overall) post their first win of the season.

Katie Rinfret and Lindsey Pekurney had Bomber assists.

Bombers' goalie Kelsey Eaton recorded 13 saves.

No. Lehigh-Wilson

Colleen Touhey's hat trick sparked Wilson to a 5-0 Colonial League shutout win over Northern Lehigh.

The Bulldogs' Kaylee Owens grabbed 11 saves on the day.

Wilson moves to 4-1 on the season. Northern Lehigh slips to 0-4.
