Don't hold your breath

Dear Editor:

After reading the TIMES NEWS article addressing the proposed dumping of sewage sludge near the towns of Mary D and Tuscarora, I offer a bit of advice for the citizens residing there, "Don't Hold Your Breath" while you're waiting for any semblance of preventive action by your state and federal legislators, ie. Argall, Holden, Knowles, McCall, Goodman, Eaches et.al.As a former executive officer in ACE (Army for a Clean Environment), I've had first-hand experience with the lackluster effort by our elected officials in their concerns for the protection of their constituents against the dumping of toxic wastes, in their communities, be it in the form of CCW (fly-ash) limekiln waste or sewage sludge. These same representatives of the people, that they facetiously swear to protect, were responsible for creating the Department of Environmental Pollution who consider toxic waste dumping a "beneficial use" when it's being dumped on mine lands close to where we live. They condone the complete lack of accountability or responsibility on the part of these agencies of deceit, and accept major campaign contributions from the corporate interests who provide the toxic waste for disposal.Albert Einstein defined insanity as the tendency to do the same thing over and over, each time expecting a different result. In our case, it's electing these same officials time and time again and expecting better representation. This coming November, lets restore our representation. This coming November, lets restore our sanity - VOTE! Vote to protect your communities.Sincerely,L.J. Dubetsky,2003 Valley RoadTamaqua, Pa. 18252
