Prothonotary's report

A total of 426 cases were started in September in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:

Assessment appeals, 14; civil actions, 62; custody complaints, 27; district justice appeals, 7; declaratory judgment, 1; divorce complaints, 14; ejectment complaints, 4; license appeals, 3; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 41; protection from abuse petitions, 20; replevin complaint, 1; judgments, 218; miscellaneous, 3; and stipulations/ waivers of liens, 10. The office staff also received and processed 59 applications for U.S. Passports.

Behrens' financial report shows $35,759.10 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $29,904.65; interest income, $4.48; custody fees, $450; and data processing fees, $5,399.97.

The prothonotary also remitted $4,173.69 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $67.20 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,580 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
