Lehigh man gets probation

A Lehigh County resident was placed on probation Monday in Carbon County court for possession of pornography material.

Johnathan L. Geist, 21, of Allentown, was placed on probation for two years by Senior Judge Richard W. Webb. Geist previously pleaded guilty to the charge. He was arrested on Sept. 12, 2008, after he showed a 17-year-old male three photographs of a naked 12-year-old girl which he had on his cellular phone. The incident occurred in Palmerton.Webb said probation was appropriate because there was no evidence that Geist took the photos of the girl or had any contact with the girl in the photos.Webb also ruled that the charge follows under the provisions of Megan's Law.Geist was not determined to be a violent sexual predator, but must register for the next 10 years with the state police as a sexual offender. He he been found a violent sexual predator, he would have had to register for life.He was also ordered to get a sexual offenders evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, supply a DNA sample, follow all other provisions of Megan's Law, have no contact with the victim, pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.Webb told Geist he must immediately go to a state police barracks and register as a sexual offender.
