Palmerton Area Historical Society celebrating 20th birthday

It's no longer a teenager. This year, the Palmerton Area Historical Society celebrates its 20th birthday and members want to invite you to a birthday party to help them celebrate.

A Founder's Day Tea will be held on Sunday, March 21 from 2-4 p.m. at the Palmerton Area Heritage Center at 410 Delaware Ave. in Palmerton.It will be a Meet and Greet with refreshments where you can meet the original officers, board of directors and charter members along with current members.This event is the official kick-off to a year-long celebration.The first un-offical activity was a poster contest held in January at the Palmerton Area High School. The winner will be announced and awarded a cash prize of $150 at the next event, a birthday dinner at the First UCC in Palmerton on Saturday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m.The other birthday celebratory events will be: a "Walk Around the Block" with Betsy Burnhauser, Sunday, May 23 at 2 p.m.; July there will be an open house at the Kibler School; Sunday, Sept. 19 from 2-4 p.m. there will be an open house at the Society's archives in Palmerton Borough Hall; Sunday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. there will be an open house at the Little White Church with the emphasis on the cemetery; Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m., Betsy Burnhauser will give a power point presentation on the history of Palmerton with ethnic pastries, at the Knight's Gallery in the Palmerton Area Library.The year long celebration will end on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. with an ecumenical service at the Little White Church.The PAHS meet the last Monday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Knight's Gallery of the Palmerton Area Library at 402 Delaware Ave., Palmerton and invite you to join them.They also invite all to come and take a walk through Palmerton's history at the Center's current display.
